Las películas de Wes Anderson
tienen un sello muy particular. Pese a ser relativamente corta (siete
largometrajes y dos cortometrajes), su filmografía deja traslucir un estilo muy
propio que divaga entre la desadaptación,
la ensoñación infantil, una fotografía terrosa y bucólica y, definitivamente, una clara
contravía no solo frente al modo de contar una historia, sino al modo mismo de
ver la vida a través del lente cinematográfico. Desde Bottle Rocket (1996), en
la que dos remisos de un manicomio incursionan en el mundo del delito, hasta Moonrise Kingdom (2012) donde un par de
preadolescentes se fugan, él de su campamento boy scout y ella de su casa, para vivir una
singular historia de amor, los
relatos de Anderson se caracterizan por un tono de rebeldía y marginalidad
agazapado tras notas que bordean la parodia, el romanticismo, el humor negro y,
en ocasiones, una irreverencia que raya en el absurdo.
Moonrise Kingdom es una de esas películas que si te enganchas a
ellas te transportan a través del tiempo y los sentimiento pero si no, te
resultan cargantes, algo postizas y con pretensiones malogradas de una
genialidad al estilo Tim Burton. Para disfrutarla es imprescindible
aceptar desde temprano la propuesta que plantea Anderson: aunque el epicentro
de la historia sea la historia de un par de niños que creen merodear los
terrenos primerizos del amor, Moonrise
Kingdom es todo menos una aventura infantil o el retrato almibarado de un
romance temprano. Es, bien por el contrario, un cuadro adulto que se sirve de
ciertas reminiscencias de la niñez para construir un relato sui generis donde los niños incursionan
en el mundo adulto y los adultos parecen devolverse a la ingenuidad y la
torpeza infantiles.
Anderson es un preciosista. Cada
escena es un cuadro medido de color y música al que se le adhieren unos
personajes que lindan con la
irrealidad y que parecen provenir de un circo olvidado o del teatro de
Pirandello. Moonrise Kingdom brilla más por el placer visual que provoca o por
la forma vanguardista de su estructura narrativa que por su propia historia. No estamos ante la evocación nostálgica
de la infancia perdida ni estamos, tampoco, ante los remolinos primarios de la
aventura juvenil. Estamos ante una pieza elaborada que cuida, pieza a pieza,
los fragmentos que la componen. Cada detalle del campamento, de la casa de Suzy
o del refugio de los precoces prófugos en un dibujo hecho a mano que se
entrelaza con el cuadro siguiente dándole quizás más importancia al tono del
relato que a la historia misma que nos es contada. Es esto lo que explica el
encanto - y también el desencanto -
que produce la película. Para el amante de las formas Moonrise Kingdom es un deleite; para el
que no las reverencia o simplemente las desdeña, la película es un desvarío con algunos algunas genialidades
que destellan pero que como película desemboca finalmente en el hastío.
Personalmente creo que una buena
película es la difícil mixtura del cómo se cuenta y de lo que se cuenta; en el
caso de Moonrise Kingdom y, en
general, en la filmografía toda de Anderson hay un estilo que, pese a la
aparente ingenuidad de su guiones o al humor que los chispea , no es fácil de
asimilar y, menos aún, de degustar. Quizás eso enaltezca su trabajo o quizás
eso mismo lo ensombrezca. Lo que sí está fuera de discusión es que estamos ante
un director genial que tiene el enorme mérito de atreverse a contar la
historia que sea desde una perspectiva diferente en la que concurren, sin
permiso ni reverencias, el drama,
el humor, el absurdo, la fantasía y hasta el propio amor. No echo a Moonrise Kingdom dentro de la estrecha valija de mis preferencias pero sí la
recomiendo porque el lenguaje con el que trasmite su sensibilidad es innovador, creativo y
subversivamente artístico.
Como suele suceder con otros
directores Anderson es uno de aquellos que clava sus preferencias en un reducido
grupo de actores: Anjelica Huston, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Kumar
Pallana, Seymour Cassel,
Jason Schwartzman y, su gran
dilecto, Bill Murray aparecen repetidos en varias de sus películas. El caso de
Murray es diciente. Sólo en el primero
de sus siete largometrajes (Ladrón
que roba a Ladrón) el inolvidable Bob Harris de Lost in traslation no está presente. Diciente porque el que siempre
elige a Murray elige la inteligencia del humor serio y elige también un actor
que se desliza, como pocos, entre la comedia y el drama recordándonos que de
aquella a esta o de esta a aquella puede haber, apenas, un paso bien dado.
Cuando la sala ya quedó vacía una
voz en la pantalla seguía presentando, uno a uno, los instrumentos de la gran orquesta. Moonrise Kingdom empieza como termina: señalándonos que la esencia de las partes (en este caso la
sonoridad de cada instrumento) se desnaturaliza y a la vez sublima cuando pasa a formar parte de un todo más grande y
complejo. Moonrise Kingdom es la
cohesión bien lograda de unos elementos que no sólo alcanzan su
sonoridad especial cuando se les ensambla, sino que aún en la unión siguen
denotando el brillo de sus propias versiones.
